Virtual RealityIn Portland & Surrounding Cities

Do you feel like you’ve tried every avenue possible to reduce your pain? We hear you. And we’ve got some good news – a new weapon to aid in your fight.

Virtual Reality (VR) is an innovative answer to chronic pain. Our groundbreaking new VR platform, developed in partnership with BehaVR, will provide you with a visually engaging experience designed to help you take control of the pain you’ve been living with for weeks, months, or years.

How Does Virtual Reality Work?

Our VR technology is a convenient, comfortable experience. When you’re wearing the goggles, you’ll be presented with both animation and videos designed to help you better learn, understand, and retain information about pain and its perception. Your physical therapist will integrate VR into one of your regular, activity-based physical therapy sessions, allowing them to guide you through the treatment and continually monitor your progress. This cutting-edge program is exclusive to ProActive and unique in our region, and our therapists have been specialty trained and certified in Pain Neuroscience Education and VR technology. Frequently Asked Questions

  • A physical therapy visit lasts about 40-60 minutes. The actual contents of the visit vary based on your diagnosis/need, but typically what happens is:

    1. You check in with the receptionist, make any appointments necessary, and we discuss your health insurance benefits with you.
    2. You go into the gym. You can change clothes if you need to, then begin therapy.
    3. You perform 6-8 various exercises and stretches. These can include therapeutic band exercises, light body weight exercises, or minimal weights. The stretches will promote strength, stability, improved range of motion, and pain relief.
    4. We can initiate other techniques to include manual work, taping, cupping, and dry needling as needed.
    5. The therapist makes recommendations based on your progress. These can include altering the frequency of visits, making additions/alterations to your home exercise plan, or things to do before your next visit.
  • We recommend budgeting 40-60 minutes for a typical therapy session. The only exception to this will be your first visit, which can take about 20 minutes longer due to the physical therapy evaluation your therapist will provide. We also recommend showing up about 10-15 minutes early to your first visit. This way, you can complete the paperwork before your visit time and streamline the process.

  • If we are asking you to do something that is hurting too much, let us know! Physical therapy should not be severely painful. It is not common to be so sore that patients are in pain or it affects their daily life. If this ever happens during or after an appointment, let us know and we will adapt your program.

  • During your initial evaluation, your therapist may ask you a number of questions to determine what the cause of your pain is. This can include questions about your sleep habits, activity level, and work environment. They will also ask for a medical history, and then typically ask direct questions about where and when you experience pain.

After a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction I didn't want anyone touching me but I also felt very weak and knew I needed help getting my strength and mobility back.  My plastic surgeon recommended ProActive PTS because of Julie's expertise in physical therapy for women who have undergone breast cancer surgeries.  I'm almost a year past my surgery now, and I have my exercises and stretches clearly laid out for me to help me keep working towards my goals.

From the first time I met Julie and Jessica, it was clear that concern for my total care was their priority. Upon learning of their focus on all aspects of this targeted program, I knew I was in the right place and on the path to full healing. Honestly, when my doctor suggested PT for breast cancer recovery, I initially had no intention of going and felt it would be a waste of my time. Today I am beyond grateful and thankful for the outstanding care provided by Julie and Jessica at ProActive PTS.

After just 4 visits...I feel like a brand new person. Before, I could barely walk for 15 minutes without my back screaming in pain. Now I'm zooming through therapy and going on walks at home.

I couldn't have wished for a better place to go for my knee replacement therapy! They know what they are doing to get you back in the swing of things so you can go on with your life!

After a long recovery from a mastectomy, chemo, radiation, and reconstructive surgery with implants, I still suffered from pain in my ribs below my breast and pain in my breast area from radiation. Julie was so comforting and really wanted to help me right from the start. I do these exercises religiously now, even after my graduation from physical therapy. Julie and her team helped me get my normal life back and I can't say enough good things about ProActive PTS.

Amazing service. They have gone out of their way to call and follow up with me while doing my at-home exercises. Highly recommend.

ProActive PTS Patient

I recently had knee replacement surgery.  I decided to do my physical therapy at ProActive PTS in Verona because it would be convenient.  I am so glad I made that decision.  Nash made me feel comfortable right away. He is very knowledgeable and has a calm, encouraging manner.  My experience with ProActive PTS was so positive that I decided to refer my husband.

We rate Proactive PTS a 10; we are extremely happy! After having received excellent PT in the past, we had no doubt this was the only place we would trust with our son's recovery. The warm, welcoming environment makes it a comfortable place to receive therapy. This puts him at ease allowing for the most effective treatment. Thank you!

My husband was skeptical of my choice to use physical therapy to treat my back pain instead of medications. After seeing my results from working with the ProActive PTS team, my husband is a believer now too.
